Dave please go to Appearance> Theron Options> Documentation to learn how to setup the slider.

I did that and it worked great. Now I would like to have a slider that does not go to the length of the page and have a picture link next to the slider

I am thinking I would like to reduce the size of the welcome page to a a small rectangle next to the slider
I have already reduced the slider. I want to align the welcome page next to the slider

Looks like you already successfully made the change. to make it perfect, replace this in your stylesheet:

#thn_welcom{ width: 10%; padding:0%; font-size:2px; color:#888; text-align:left; float:left; top:0px; left:0px; margin-top:1px; background:#fff; }

with this:

#thn_welcom{ width: 24%; padding:0%; font-size:2px; color:#888; text-align:left; float:left; top:0px; left:0px; margin-top:1px; background:#fff; }
